Testosterone assay

Testosterone is a steroid hormone synthesized from 17α-hydroxy progesterone by the enzymes 17,20-lyase and 17β-hydroxysteroid deshydrogenase in the gonads of both males and females, although small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands. It is the principal male sex hormone and an anabolic steroid. It plays an important role in the stimulation and the development of masculine characteristics by its fixation of androgen receptors.

Features

  • Homogeneous assay
  • Short 1 hour incubation after stimulation
  • Serum compatible
  • Small sample volume needed (as low as 5-10 µL)

Applications

  • Testosterone measurement
  • Screening of 17ß-hydroxysteroid deshydrogenase activity

The Aldosterone assay is a monoclonal antibody-based competitive assay, requiring a single 1 hour incubation following cell or enzyme stimulation.
