How to access Avignon
By train
The easiest and fastest way to get to Avignon from Paris, or the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle international airport is taking the high speed TGV train. Tickets should be purchased well in advance (at least one month). First class and second class travel is available. For all booking information, please visit the SNCF website (in English), from which you will be able to book, buy and print your train ticket: www.sncf.com or, for tickets purchased in the US: www.raileurope.com.
Choose your departure station from the pop-up menu or select "Airport CDG 2 TGV" if you land at Charles de Gaulle airport. Select "Avignon" as the arrival station. Shuttles for the city center leave from Avignon TGV train station regularly. There is also a taxi rank opposite the exit.
By air
When coming to France from abroad, the main airport is the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle international airport in Paris (airport code: CDG). However, some European flights may land at other airports, namely at Marseille international airport. Avignon too has a small airport (check its website for details on flights: www.avignon.aeroport.fr)By car
Approaching Avignon from Lyon:
Avignon is a 2 1/2 hour drive South from Lyon down the A7 motorway. Take exit 23 for "Avignon" and follow signs for the city centre ("Avignon/Centre ville").
Approaching Avignon from Marseille:
Avignon is an hour's drive from Marseille northward up the A7 motorway. Take exit 24 for "Avignon Sud" and follow signs for the city centre ("Avignon/Centre ville").
